Hello!!! Welcome to the first posts on PGH dot com. We’d like to shape the direction we are headed in together, test out the site format, add features and get ready to share publicly. The FB groups are still going well. We will keep those groups as is and bring some of the main themes here. We’ll continue to have the PGH decorum. We’re looking into how to have members register with social media accounts to attach their identity and have accountability, we don’t want the forum to deteriorate into the foolish negativity that is most everywhere other than PGH.
What would you like to see? How should the topics be categorized? Ideas on how to keep out and eliminate trolls? This is going to be a zero budget kind of project. I expect to have some out of pocket expenses, but would love input on how to make the site all it can be with that in mind!
There was a PGH post about a year ago that had a lot of great ideas. Here is a list I compiled:
TAB, update what is out there and make corrections, Lead sheets
Organize and make the PGH wealth of knowledge searchable
Trey licks and phrases lessons and requests
Song writers
Bands and gigs
Gear discussion, demos
Doc Lineage guitar discussion, list of makers, current pricing
Music Theory Discussion, terms, definitions, discussion, lessons, Q&A
Chasing the Trey Tone
Video lessons by category
Phish Analysis, Song and Jam Analysis
Buy, sell, trade
Local Meet Up & Jams
Bass Corner
Jam Bands!!!!
Jazz, Funk & Classical crossover with phish
PGH patreon lessons
Play alongs
File sharing
PGH Lessons Series Subscription
Tour
Podcast
Merch
Paid advertising for bands, brands etc via banner or Google ads.
Thanks for being a part of the preparation! We hope to come up with a site that is separate of FB, provides what members have expressed wanting in a PGH site and get this thing going!

Hey, can’t wait to see where this goes! I think it’s going to open up a lot more opportunities than just the Facebook group alone.

Are you thinking of the chat that is a part of the group or FB messenger. Not sure? Could be cool, what do you have in mind?

It appears there may be some functionality for that in the Messenger API documentation.

Cool!
I wonder how much conversation in PGH is in private DMs? No way for me to know.

Superb content moderation and troll filtering is what makes the Facebook group as great as it is. Definitely need to figure out a way to set up potential site admins or moderators or something to keep things as smooth here as it is there

Agreed! We are looking into verifying people by having everyone join via a social media account.
If anyone has ideas how to eliminate anonymous trolls or known trolls, let me know!

Hey PGH! Thanks for setting this up JM and inviting us to participate.I am excited to have a forum style space where we can click on different topics and read through current and older posts. I think that will be a great way to capture more information and drive/facilitate more discussion. I am most looking forward to the “tour” and the “jam analysis” sections.
I would envision the “tour” section to be a bit like the Reddit post that always goes out, with a way to discuss the current show as its happening, or shows that have happened. Maybe an idea here would be to post links to each of the nights reddit post as an updatable topic (or comment that stays at the top), Reddit already does a great job of capturing what was played, time length and some usually fun notes. THEN, in the comments section under that comment, we can discuss over arching themes of the tour, which is what I think lacks on Reddit. Reddit is great for that nights show, but its hard to go back and find the comment after a day or so has gone by. This would be a good resource to collect that info. Are we able to do that? Do we want to post links to outside sources? Just an idea.
For “jam analysis”. Are links to a youtube video allowed? This would be a great place to collect PGH knowledge of what the band is doing during certain jams, current or past. There is a lot of knowledge inside the FB page, but searching it and finding it is not that fun. Collecting it here so its searchable and all the comments show up in a forum style would be really cool. Even getting into a cadence where we post a new jam a month, or new jam a week would be cool. I think I would be interested in leading one a quarter or so, where I pick a jam, try to dissect it and make and facilitate a post to try to get some interaction.
Just a few ideas,
-Alex

Great points. Thanks Alex. Yes. Links to versions etc will be fine! That’s always fine in the FB group too, it’s only not allowed to promo our own YouTube.
Thank you!

What I would love is a site we can easily upload the most complete and accurate tabs on the web. I know there are sites like Emils and StrangeDesign but man, what a pain it is to add submissions or corrections on those sites. I just dont know how to organize something like that and make it better than whats out there currently.

I think before too long, I’ll start setting up a song forum. I think we should just have a topic for each song and start, maybe, by putting an example of existing TAB in the topic (credit and link to the source) and open the topic for discussion. There shouldn’t be any problem for users to upload their own tabs in the threads.
Thoughts?
