Possibly OAUTH through several options. Facebook being one of them. It would be a shame to limit people to be able to sign up here to to have a FB account. But that option is a way to have verified users. Google has OAUTH, but anyone can make any number of gmail accounts etc. Possibly Reddit too. They have limits for API calls now, but this site would sit WELL below that threshold. Reddit is more

Reddit is more anonymous, but if an admin still has to approve users, an admin could check out their post history on FB or Reddit to see if they are a newly created account.
